BTE: Behind The Ear
This style of hearing aid fits snugly behind the ear. A small plastic tube is contoured over the ear and attached to an earmold which rests inside the ear canal. BTEs are durable, easy to maintain and can be easily adapted to use with assistive living devices.
RIC: Receiver in Canal
This style is similar to the BTE, but much smaller making it much more discreet. It is durable, cosmetically appealing and provides superior sound quality.
ITE: In The Ear
This style of hearing aid rests firmly over your ear canal and fills the entire bowl of the ear. It is custom made and lightweight. ITE’s are easy to manage, have more power and accessories for wireless communication are available.
ITC: In The Canal
This style is smaller than the ITE aids and is positioned further into the canal, with only a small portion of the device visible. This style is cosmetically appealing. ITC’s require good dexterity to insert and accessories for wireless communication are available.
CIC: Completely In The Canal
This style of hearing aid is the smallest and most cosmetically discreet. It rests completely in the ear canal and is custom made. This style is cosmetically appealing and nearly invisible. CIC’s style is easy for telephone use and come with a nylon string to help with insertion and removal.
